Know that no matter what\u2019s to come, you can rest in the healing peace of Christ and cry out to Him in any time of need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Melanoma cancer<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cancer.org\/cancer\/melanoma-skin-cancer\/about\/key-statistics.html\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">American Cancer Society<\/a>, skin cancer is the most common of all the possible types of cancer. However, melanoma is only a very small percentage of typically diagnosed types.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, what is melanoma? It\u2019s a variation of cancer that occurs when melanocytes (cells that impact skin color), behave differently than they are supposed to. It can spread throughout the body quickly, which is why early detection, and prevention, are crucial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mskcc.org\/news\/five-surprising-facts-about-melanoma\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center<\/a>, melanoma spots can occasionally be colorless and instead appear as pink spots or bumps. Additionally, they state that even if you stay out of the sun, up to 30% of cases can still occur. It\u2019s important to stay aware and recognize the signs and symptoms of melanoma to be prepared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Melanoma symptoms<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you experience any change in the color, size, or texture of your skin pattern, it\u2019s a good idea to get checked out by a medical provider. If at any point a portion of the skin appears to look completely different from the surrounding area, it\u2019s also a good idea to ask your doctor for more direction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The American Cancer Society has created the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cancer.org\/cancer\/melanoma-skin-cancer\/detection-diagnosis-staging\/signs-and-symptoms.html#:~:text=Spread%20of%20pigment%20from%20the,of%20a%20lump%20or%20bump\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cABCDE\u201d&nbsp;<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cancer.org\/cancer\/melanoma-skin-cancer\/detection-diagnosis-staging\/signs-and-symptoms.html#:~:text=Spread%20of%20pigment%20from%20the,of%20a%20lump%20or%20bump\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">rule<\/a>&nbsp;&nbsp;as a suggestion of how to be on the lookout for any melanoma spots:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>A<\/strong>: Asymmetry: does one half of the mole or spot not match the other?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>B<\/strong>: Border: are the edges irregular or abnormal?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>C<\/strong>: Color: are there differences in skin shade?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>D<\/strong>: Diameter: is the size growing?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>E<\/strong>: Evolving: is the spot, mole, or area changing?<br><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/chministries.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/melanoma_abcde-infographic-1024x724.webp\" alt=\"melanoma symptoms. CHM\" class=\"wp-image-2778\" style=\"width:693px;height:490px\" width=\"693\" height=\"490\" srcset=\"https:\/\/chministries.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/melanoma_abcde-infographic-1024x724.webp 1024w, https:\/\/chministries.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/melanoma_abcde-infographic-300x212.webp 300w, https:\/\/chministries.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/melanoma_abcde-infographic-768x543.webp 768w, https:\/\/chministries.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/melanoma_abcde-infographic.webp 1128w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 693px) 100vw, 693px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/moffitt.org\/cancers\/melanoma\/signs-symptoms\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Moffitt Cancer Center<\/a>&nbsp;, there are several other symptoms that could occur for early stage melanoma:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A scaly patch of skin<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A mole that changes in size, shape, or color<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Itchy, tender skin or nodules under the skin<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A patch of skin, such as a sore, rash, or bump that isn\u2019t healing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Melanoma&nbsp;causes different symptoms, depending on its stage. Later stages may include symptoms such as bleeding, itching, or other types of irritation. Metastatic melanoma occurs when the melanoma spreads to other areas of the body. The signs and symptoms that correlate with this stage depend on the body part that the cancer has reached. That\u2019s why it\u2019s important to know the difference between regular and cancerous moles or skin areas, and to check with a doctor when any questions or signs might arise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Daily life: Prevention<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aad.org\/public\/public-health\/skin-cancer-awareness\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">American Academy of Dermatology<\/a>&nbsp;(AAD),&nbsp;&nbsp;asserts that skin cancer is one of the most preventable cancers. They recommend conducting regular self-exams, getting screened by a medical professional, and using safe sun-exposure practices. Additionally, the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.skincancer.org\/skin-cancer-prevention\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Skin Cancer Foundation<\/a>&nbsp;&nbsp;provides some quick tips to enjoy soaking up some rays\u2014in a safe way:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Avoid getting sunburned and seek shade, especially in the hottest parts of the day<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Apply 2 tablespoons of at least 15 SPF sunscreen every day, and 30 SPF sunscreen when spending extended time outdoors<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Don\u2019t go tanning or to a tanning bed<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Examine your skin regularly, and get a skin exam from a medical professional<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to these tips for melanoma cancer prevention,&nbsp;stay educated about the latest news, signs, symptoms, and treatments. It&#8217;s important to learn about different types of medical incidents so that you&#8217;re already prepared. Ask your doctor or pastor if they have suggestions or know of any local support groups you could join.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If worrying about potential medical costs for a future diagnosis is weighing heavy on your heart, know that you have options!
