Pregnancy fatigue is no exception. It\u2019s hard to work up the willpower to accomplish the things you need to, like&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/chministries.org\/babies-on-a-budget-family-budget-planning\/\">budgeting<\/a>, preparing your house, and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/chministries.org\/preparing-your-heart-and-spirit-for-a-new-baby\/\">preparing your heart<\/a>&nbsp;for your&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/chministries.org\/be-strong-and-courageous\/\">coming baby<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you can relate to this, you&#8217;re not alone\u2014pregnancy fatigue is normal. But just because it\u2019s normal doesn\u2019t mean it\u2019s welcome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When does pregnancy fatigue start?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Sudden, extreme fatigue is one of the earliest indicators of pregnancy. When does fatigue start in pregnancy? Unfortunately, it can start as early as the first week after conception. Extreme tiredness in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/chministries.org\/first-months-of-pregnancy-symptoms\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">early pregnancy<\/a>&nbsp;is most common, but pregnancy fatigue can extend to both the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/chministries.org\/second-trimester-symptoms\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">second trimester<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/chministries.org\/third-trimester-of-pregnancy-symptoms\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">third trimester<\/a>&nbsp;as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What does pregnancy fatigue feel like?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Pregnancy fatigue may feel like lack of motivation, trouble getting up in the morning, difficulty completing tasks, going to bed earlier than usual, and trouble staying asleep. You\u2019ll typically need to sleep for longer periods of time\u2014between 8-10 hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Causes of pregnancy fatigue<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Your exhaustion will differ depending on what stage of your pregnancy you\u2019re in. Early pregnancy exhaustion has different causes than late pregnancy exhaustion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Early pregnancy exhaustion<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In early pregnancy, your body goes through a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/chministries.org\/first-months-of-pregnancy-symptoms\/\">myriad of changes<\/a>, and these changes naturally lead to fatigue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Hormonal changes.<\/strong>&nbsp;Pregnancy causes increased estrogen and progesterone levels, which leads to drowsiness. Fortunately, the increased drowsiness progesterone provides can lead to deeper and more restful sleep.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Low blood pressure.<\/strong>&nbsp;Your growing baby needs extra blood, which means your blood sugar and blood pressure lower as your body supplies this additional blood.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Placenta.&nbsp;<\/strong>Early in pregnancy, your body is working hard to grow a placenta for your baby. This organ supplies nutrients and oxygen to your baby as they grow throughout your pregnancy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Third trimester fatigue<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You might experience a short period of relief after your body adjusts to the major changes that occur in early pregnancy, but fatigue often hits hard in later pregnancy for a couple reasons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Extra weight<\/strong>. As your baby grows bigger, so do you. The extra weight you carry around easily leads to exhaustion as you go about your day.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Pregnancy insomnia.&nbsp;<\/strong>Sleep eludes many women due to lack of comfortable pregnancy sleeping positions. Many of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/chministries.org\/third-trimester-of-pregnancy-symptoms\/\">third trimester pregnancy symptoms<\/a>&nbsp;contribute to poor sleep.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to fight fatigue<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>While you may not be able to prevent fatigue in its entirety, here are some tips to improve it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ask for help<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a great time to call on your support network for help. When someone says, &#8220;If you need anything, let me know,&#8221; take them up on it! People often want to help but don\u2019t know how to assist you. It\u2019s ok to ask&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/chministries.org\/preparing-your-heart-and-spirit-for-a-new-baby\/\">family<\/a>&nbsp;members and friends to fix a meal, help with housework, run errands, or sit with other children while you rest.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns has-offwhite-background-color has-background is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-constrained wp-block-column-is-layout-constrained\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-source-serif-font-family has-medium-font-size\">Little wins throughout the day\u2014like taking a shower, brushing your teeth, and putting on clean clothes\u2014can often make you feel better.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-constrained wp-block-column-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Self-care<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Sometimes, you may feel so tired that you don\u2019t feel like getting dressed or cleaned up for the day. But little wins throughout the day\u2014like taking a shower, brushing your teeth, and putting on clean clothes\u2014can often make you feel better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stay hydrated and eat well<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Make sure you&#8217;re drinking plenty of water and eating nutritious meals. Eat a variety of foods, including healthy fats, high-fiber carbohydrates, and sources of protein. Look for foods rich in vitamins and minerals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you find you&#8217;re hungry more often or it takes a bit more food to satisfy your hunger, consider eating healthy, high-protein snacks between meals. You also should faithfully take your prenatal vitamins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When to call a doctor<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you can\u2019t find a coping strategy that works and your fatigue prevents you from being able to care for yourself, don\u2019t hesitate to seek professional help.
