We enjoy answering this question because our history, present and future highlight reasons why you can be confident that CHM members will share your eligible medical expenses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Our upstanding history<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Founded in 1981, Christian Healthcare Ministries (CHM) is the longest-serving health cost sharing ministry. Since CHM\u2019s inception, its members have shared 100 percent of each other\u2019s eligible health cost burdens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns are-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-constrained wp-block-column-is-layout-constrained\" style=\"flex-basis:28%\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"341\" height=\"118\" src=\"https:\/\/chministries.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/christ-like-generosity.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-731\" style=\"width:228px;height:79px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/chministries.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/christ-like-generosity.png 341w, https:\/\/chministries.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/christ-like-generosity-300x104.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 341px) 100vw, 341px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-constrained wp-block-column-is-layout-constrained\" style=\"flex-basis:72%\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">And it works! Millions of dollars are shared each year, touching the lives of tens of thousands of people. New testimonies are uploaded monthly; you can see just how powerful your monthly contributions are. Also, a common theme within CHM members\u2019 testimonies is the encouragement they felt when receiving cards and letters from other CHM members who are praying for them as they walk through a medical event.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Our present<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Transparency is part of being accountable. Here are just a few of CHM\u2019s internal policies:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Third-party annual audits:<\/strong>&nbsp;CHM\u2019s annual financial statements are audited by an independent Certified Public Accounting firm. It checks all aspects of CHM from the receipt and disbursement of money to the systems and procedures that control operations. Additionally, copies of annual audits are made available to anyone upon request.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Our independent board of directors:<\/strong>&nbsp;Management and the Board of Directors regularly review financial statements and reports on CHM\u2019s financial position. The Board also reviews and approves the ministry&#8217;s annual budget.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Maintaining strict internal controls:<\/strong>&nbsp;CHM staff members who receive money do not disburse money. CHM staff members who prepare checks for payment do not sign the checks. CHM staff members who sign the checks do not reconcile bank statements.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Fraud prevention measures:<\/strong>&nbsp;CHM implemented and abides by the provisions of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002, which directly addresses fraud prevention. As a non-profit organization, CHM is not required to take this action, but it does so to give members even greater confidence in CHM\u2019s safeguards.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Publishing the CHM Guidelines:<\/strong>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/chministries.org\/chm-guidelines\/\">The CHM Guidelines<\/a> are available&nbsp;online, so there should be few questions about what is, or isn\u2019t, eligible for sharing. Our staff is available through multiple methods of communication, including direct social media messages, to give members answers to any Guidelines-related questions.<br><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:15%\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"75\" height=\"128\" src=\"https:\/\/chministries.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/ac-seal-v-bbb.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-732\" style=\"width:81px;height:138px\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:85%\">\n<p>CHM has been a Better Business Bureau Accredited Charity since 2013. This designation is not achieved by every charitable organization\u2014in fact, only two percent of BBB-reviewed charities are accredited.
