{"id":8472,"date":"2026-02-24T16:39:32","date_gmt":"2026-02-24T21:39:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chministries.org\/?p=8472"},"modified":"2026-02-24T16:45:32","modified_gmt":"2026-02-24T21:45:32","slug":"the-earth-is-the-lords","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chministries.org\/blog\/the-earth-is-the-lords\/","title":{"rendered":"The earth is the Lord\u2019s: A biblical call to stewardship"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-constrained wp-block-column-is-layout-constrained\">\n<p>Between World Wildlife Day (March 3), International Day of Forests (March 21), and World Water Day (March 22), there are plenty of reasons to honor and celebrate God\u2019s creation. But can we truly honor His creation if we are not also caring for it?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For Christians, caring for the earth is not a peripheral issue or a passing cultural trend\u2014it flows directly from foundational biblical truths about God, humanity, and redemption. Stewardship is an expression of obedience to God, <a href=\"https:\/\/chministries.org\/blog\/fruit-of-the-spirit-love\/\">love<\/a> for our neighbors, and reverence for all He has made.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stewardship does not mean ownership<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In Genesis, God entrusts His creation to humanity, calling us to \u201cwork\u201d and \u201ctake care\u201d of the garden [Genesis 2:15]. These words imply cultivation and protection. It means using the resources God has given us with responsibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stewardship in the Bible means managing something that belongs to God, and Scripture repeatedly affirms that \u201cthe earth is the Lord\u2019s\u201d [Psalm 24:1], created by Him and deemed good. When Christians care for the environment, they acknowledge and respect God\u2019s ownership and <a href=\"https:\/\/chministries.org\/blog\/fruit-of-the-spirit-self-control\/\">resist the temptation<\/a> to abuse it for human consumption and profit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Caring for the earth is an act of <a href=\"https:\/\/chministries.org\/blog\/finding-god-faithful\/\">faithfulness<\/a>, respects what ultimately belongs to God, and honors His trust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Creation reflects God\u2019s character and glory<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The natural world reveals God\u2019s power, creativity, and order [Psalm 19:1; Romans 1:20]. Swaying fields of wildflowers, a rainbow at the bottom of a waterfall, a self-sustaining ecosystem, sweet and loving house pets\u2014all these things are expressions of God\u2019s vast creativity and intentionality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Damaging creation distorts God\u2019s witness; preserving it allows future generations to experience wonder, gratitude, and reverence toward the Creator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Environmental care is a matter of loving our neighbor<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Environmental harm often affects the poor and vulnerable first\u2014through polluted water, unhealthy air, food scarcity, or climate instability. Jesus\u2019 command to love our neighbor includes protecting the conditions that allow people to live healthy, dignified lives. As such, Stewardship is an act of compassion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stewardship shapes Christian witness<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We reflect God in how we care for the earth and those around us. Thoughtful care demonstrates humility, self-restraint, and gratitude\u2014virtues that reflect Christ. Neglect or exploitation can undermine Christian witness by suggesting indifference to God\u2019s creation and human suffering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Caring for the earth anticipates God\u2019s future restoration<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As Christians, our hope shouldn\u2019t be in escape from the world but the renewal of it. Scripture teaches that humanity subjects creations to destruction, but it will be redeemed [Romans 8:19\u201321].<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, while God promises to renew creation, believers are called to live in ways that anticipate that renewal [Luke 12:40-44]. When Christians care for the earth now, they live in alignment with God\u2019s promised future, offering a foretaste of restoration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Gratitude leads to responsibility<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Creation is a gift meant to be received with thanksgiving. Gratitude naturally leads to care, restraint, and wise use of resources. Christians honor God when they treat His gifts with reverence and care rather than selfishness and wastefulness [Matthew 25:14-30].<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Taken together, caring for the earth is a beautiful expression of Christian faith\u2014one that combines worship, obedience, justice, and hope.
