{"id":989,"date":"2023-03-28T21:41:38","date_gmt":"2023-03-28T21:41:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chministries.org\/?p=989"},"modified":"2024-10-11T16:02:43","modified_gmt":"2024-10-11T21:02:43","slug":"fruit-of-the-spirit-peace","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chministries.org\/blog\/fruit-of-the-spirit-peace\/","title":{"rendered":"The fruit of peace"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-constrained wp-block-column-is-layout-constrained\">\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/shareArticle?mini=true&amp;url=https:\/\/community.chministries.org\/blog\/fruit-of-the-spirit-goodness\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Peace from the Bible<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>It seems like everything is out to steal your peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are little fires popping up, tasks to be completed, people needing to be cared for, and the distinct feeling you\u2019ve forgotten something vitally important. While we\u2019re trying to accomplish all of this, our culture is busy feeding us lies: <em>you must do it all; you\u2019re failing; you\u2019re not enough<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With this as the soundtrack to our day, it\u2019s not surprising peace feels unattainable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are many Scriptures on peace because peace is important. It\u2019s directly connected to our relationship with God and is a visible indicator to the world of how much (or little) we trust our Savior. It\u2019s no wonder that the enemy tries to attack it so fiercely!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But with all we\u2019re juggling each day, how can we develop peace of mind when it is easily squashed?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">It is well with my soul<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><br>In 1873, Horatio Spafford, wrestling with the loss of his son to scarlet fever and the destruction of his business in the Great Chicago Fire, sent his wife and four daughters by boat ahead of him to England while he tied up loose ends. Sadly, their ship collided with another ship and sank. Only his wife was rescued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Horatio hurried to England to be with his wife, and as he passed over the waters where his daughters drowned, he quietly penned the words for \u201cIt is Well.&#8221; You may know the first stanza:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns has-offwhite-background-color has-background is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-e0e4babd wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\" style=\"padding-right:0;padding-left:0\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-constrained wp-block-column-is-layout-constrained\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-source-serif-font-family has-medium-font-size\"><em>When peace like a river attendeth my way,<br>When sorrows like a sea billows roll,<br>Whatever my lot, Thou hast taught me to say,<br>It is well, it is well with my soul.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-constrained wp-block-column-is-layout-constrained\">\n<p>While we may not face Horiato\u2019s situation, the truth in his words is important. Even in pain, the secret to peace is this: the peace of God is not situational. As Isaiah promises in Isaiah 26:3 (ESV), \u201cYou keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You because he trusts in You.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Shalom<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When we think of inner peace , we may think of rest, self-love, confidence in ourselves, a lack of caring what other people think of us. According to the Bible, none of these things are true inner peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Instead, peace is resting in the security of God, knowing you are whole in Him and He is guiding your steps. It\u2019s trusting His ways are <a href=\"https:\/\/chministries.org\/blog\/fruit-of-the-spirit-goodness\/\">good<\/a>, and that despite what you may go through, God is in control . It\u2019s accepting and understanding that where you are today is part of His plan to bring glory to His name and shape you to be more like Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:25%\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:60%\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"FruitFULL devotional: Peace\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/rlBycvO0TQ4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Elle Cardel, founder of the women&#8217;s ministry\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.daughterofdelight.com\/\">Daughter of Delight,<\/a> talks about the peace of God and how to be a peacemaker in your world.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:20%\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Elisabeth Elliot, a Christian missionary, author, and speaker, says it this way: \u201cWe can rest assured that the situation in which we find ourselves (and nowhere else) is the very place where God wants to meet us. It is here that we will grow into the likeness of Christ. So this means that suffering itself is not meaningless, it is not \u2018for nothing.\u2019 It is an element of God\u2019s loving purpose.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This \u201csuffering\u201d might be a toddler sprawled on the grocery store floor throwing a tantrum. It might be a medical situation, financial stress, or a car\u2019s check engine light. It might be the coworker testing your patience or someone at church pushing your buttons. In a broken world, there\u2019s no lack of situations attempting to rob us of peace.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns has-offwhite-background-color has-background is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-constrained wp-block-column-is-layout-constrained\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-source-serif-font-family has-medium-font-size\">\u201cPeace, be still,\u201d Jesus said to the storm in Mark 4:39 [ESV], and He says the same to our storms. Instead of fretting, worrying, and attempting to control things on our own, we can rest knowing God will meet us here.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-constrained wp-block-column-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mind of peace<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>How do we develop this peace in our own lives? Elisabeth Elliot, in her book <em>Be Still My Soul<\/em>, lays out several next steps:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Choose your attitude. <\/strong>Will you approach this situation remembering <a href=\"https:\/\/chministries.org\/blog\/finding-god-faithful\/\">God\u2019s faithfulness<\/a> to you? Will you trust him? Will you rest in His control of the situation?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Choose to offer your pain to God<\/strong>. Whatever your pain is, you don\u2019t have to carry it on your own. We have a heavenly Father eager to carry our burdens.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Choose to receive what God has given with open hands<\/strong>. Many times, we can\u2019t control the thing robbing us of our peace. It simply \u2018is what it is.\u2019 Accept it and ask God to move in ways you can\u2019t.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Choose to renew your commitment to Him<\/strong>. Despite our emotions, our situations, our frustrations, or our struggles, we serve a God who is good. Wherever you are, remind yourself Who you follow and what He has done for you.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Choose to praise Him as Habakkuk did<\/strong>. Though Israel was in famine, Habakkuk praised the Lord. God was faithful to Israel in the past, and Habakkuk knew He would be faithful in the future, despite what present circumstances looked like.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Choose to do the next thing<\/strong>. We may lose our peace because we don\u2019t have control over a situation or we can\u2019t do something the way we planned. However, just because our plan differs from God\u2019s doesn\u2019t mean we can\u2019t experience peace or move forward. God is sovereign\u2013you don\u2019t have to fix everything on your own. Just do the next thing.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><br>If peace feels a lot like a choice, it\u2019s because it is. Jesus knows that we\u2019ll have trials and tribulations in this world. However, He promises us in John 16:33 (ESV), \u201cI have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world, you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Peace is found by willfully accepting God\u2019s promises, resting in His faithfulness, following His footsteps, and trusting the Holy Spirit to provide peace in places where you cannot.
